Savuti family safari

An intimate moment shared with a 5-week old lion cub, the first litter for a young female lioness of the “Channel Pride”.
The Savuti Channel is a magnet for elephants, attracting numerous large herds from the surrounding woodland.
African barred owlet behind Wilderness Savuti. They call throughout the night at the start of their breeding season!
Black-bellied korhaan (aka the champagne bird). They have a pretty weird call: stretches up and gives a froggy kwaaaark; then jerks neck in, waits a moment, and makes a cork-popping sound!
The dominant males of the Channel Pride, Man-in-Charge and Golden Boy.
Our visit coincided with the first impala births of the season.
We were alerted to the presence of a predator by the alarm calls of helmeted guineafowl, and found this African wild cat.

We found numerous herds of buffalo along the Savuti Channel, as they looked to quench their thirst and cool down from the intense summer heat.
