Camp news

The lower occupancy this month allowed our back-of-house teams to complete multiple projects in and around the lodge. These projects included our new official reforestation nursery, with the first 200 trees prepared – a fantastic start for something we have all been waiting a long time for.

The Sabyinyo staff gym was also launched this month. We started with a competitive race amongst the staff, and a big day of workouts and running. The fun part was hugging and exchanging roses with each other to express the love we all share for our amazing team.

Sabyinyo farm

Our Sabyinyo farming project has never been this productive, and with well-balanced weather this month we were able to harvest some fresh vegetables from our garden. Our chicken coop also produced lots of eggs. We encourage our guests to head down to the veggie gardens to see what they are being served for their meals at the lodge. A truly farm-to-plate experience.

Sabyinyo staff training at Wilderness Magashi

Patrick Bizimungu, Sabyinyo Junior Manager, had the opportunity to visit Magashi for a few days, working with its management team to get more familiar with Wilderness operations. He also had the opportunity to work with the back-of-house team, but most importantly, for the first time Patrick had both boat and game drive experiences, and was amazed how close he got to the elephants, and how big they are.

Wine training

This month we had a great opportunity for our service team to do its first wine training on-site with the Wilderness wine training team from South Africa. This training is often done online, so having the training on-site this time allowed the team to get a much more in-depth understanding, and some great practical experience with the tastings, and aromas involved. A valuable time.
