Wilderness Linyanti Tented Camp newsletter – April 2025

Even though the bush is still thick, the wildlife is showing itself, and we had a pack of 13 painted dogs in the area, located between the big baobabs and the Botswana Defence Force base camp. 

Lions were also spotted around Crocodile Corner – four males, all of them new to our area. 

Elephants are slowly but surely reappearing and we saw a herd by the river close to our guest rooms on the western side of camp. 

General game including impalas, warthogs and baboons also regularly made their appearances around our area.

Our resident sitatungas were around, as always, mostly being seen in the channel close to LTC West’s main area. 

Another interesting highlight was the clan of nine hyena cubs spotted at the den.

Birdlife in the Linyanti area is prolific and very rewarding, with species including African fish eagles, herons, egrets, and spur-winged geese regularly seen in flight. To our surprise, we had a lesser striped swallow pair build their mud nest by the main area for the very first time, an activity which enchanted our guests. Swamp bulbuls have also shown up around the office and main area, while guineafowl were seen all around LTC, seemingly having relocated from elsewhere.

It’s been great to see a beautiful water monitor lizard every day at the channel, while a few days back a thrilling black mamba was seen by the Boma area.

Cute tree squirrels, as always, were seen all over camp.

As we approach our peak season, all camp activities have resumed in full; this includes both in-camp and out-of-camp activities, including a number of WOW set-ups for our guests. 

 
The newly built walkway is functioning very well. 

All our staff are back at Linyanti Tented Camp from the other camps they had been posted to while we were closed. We have also started two new managers, while one other has been transferred to another camp. With the admin post being phased out, our admin person is now undergoing management training and mentorship.
