Why choose Zambia for a honeymoon safari

With two safari camps located in Zambia’s Kafue National Park, each open for just five months of the year, Wilderness is able to offer a truly exclusive and authentic private honeymoon experience away from the crowds of other better-known safari areas. Plus, no Zambian honeymoon safari would be complete without a visit to the Victoria Falls. From Wilderness Toka Leya just outside of Livingstone, we are able to combine your safari with a visit to this world wonder, for a honeymoon like no other.

Look forward to sparkling wine at golden hour on Kafue’s legendary Busanga Plains, helicopter flights over the falls, and leisurely boating trips that complement daily game drives. Remote yet thoughtfully appointed, with designs that brings the outside in, your Zambian honeymoon at any of our safari camps combines comfort, privacy, and elegance.

A honeymoon safari in Zambia is easily combined with Botswana or Zimbabwe for an extended getaway defined by unforgettable shared experiences.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time for a honeymoon safari in Zambia?

The best time for a honeymoon safari in Zambia is the dry season from May to October. This is when the Wilderness camps in Kafue National Park are open and at their best with fantastic game viewing. If you want to combine your safari with a visit to Victoria Falls, then early on in the season is best as water volumes cause the Falls to be more dramatic, thunderous, and mist-filled. From August onwards water levels are lower which allows for popular adventure activities like a daring swim in Devil’s Pool on the edge of the Falls.

What romantic experiences are available in Zambia?

Romance in Zambia is all about shared adventure with a mix of safari and river-based experiences. Embark on game drives together, enjoy seasonal boating, and venture out after dark for a night drive. In camp, experiences are also a key part of your honeymoon; dine around an open-fire, savour an intimate bush dinner under a lantern-lit tree, and enjoy the pool and spa treatments. At Wilderness Toka Leya near Victoria Falls, your safari extends to river cruises on the Zambezi, guided rhino tracking on foot, scenic helicopter flights over the Falls, cultural village visits and plenty of adventure activities, from ziplines, bungee jumping, bridge swinging and plenty more to get your heart racing.

How private are the camps in Zambia?

Zambia’s Kafue National Park extends over an area of 22,400 sq. km (larger than Kruger National Park), and within this, Wilderness operates very low-impact concessions with limited camps and guest numbers. This means sightings are rarely crowded, and it is common to feel like you have the entire place to yourself. Wilderness Shumba, which sits on its own tree island in the Busanga Plains, features just six luxury suites, spaced far apart and overlooking an uninterrupted wild floodplain. Similarly, Wilderness Busanga Bush Camp is small and intimate, with only four tented suites. Perfect for a honeymoon safari.
